James
Wood - Songwriter
The story of James
Wood's journey with music began in the 70's when
he heard his first Kiss record. Seeing the pyrotecnics
and glamour of the band is what led Jim to pick
up a hand held potato slicer and begin shredding.
( True Story ).
It wasn't until the mid 80's that Jim finally convinced
his parents to rent a guitar from a local music
store and take lessons. He began writing his own
material in addition to learning all the latest
hair band and other eighties music.
In high school, Jim played guitar for the school
play and jazz band, honed his chops in creative
writing, music theory, concert choir and played
in local bands. All the while keeping to one thing:
writing songs that cross barriers and mean something.
Jim's been able to share his music with audiences
from small clubs and fairs to major concert venues.
His original songs transcend multiple genres. As
both lyricist, songwriter and band member, Jim's
been fortunate to have been involved in projects
that received critical acclaim as well as multiple
nominations at the annual Lehigh Valley Music Awards.
The all original CD, "The Long
Road" won the award for Best Overall CD In
All Genres for 2007. Jim wrote six songs on the
CD. Jim also had the unique opportunity to share
the stage with artists as diverse as three time
Grammy nominee Jamie O'Neal, American Idol runner-up
Clay Aiken and Mercury Nashville recording artist
Julie Roberts.
In 2008, Jim received
two nominations for Lehigh Valley Music Awards:
Best Lyricist and Best Original Song "Workin
Man's Pension Plan" a song co-written with
Ryan Hydro.
Currently, Jim is writing and recording new material
with other great local songwriters and still always
looking for that elusive "perfect song".
Jim believes totally in the meaning of the songs
and not himself. That's why you'll find that most
of his songs have been sung by others. But he sums
it up best by saying, "The message is within
the music and is so much more than me."
